What do creaky, popping, cracking
knees and olive oil, fruits, veggies and red wine have in common? Knee osteoarthritis!
Williamson knee pain sufferers experience that
morning routine with “bad” knees, the stiffness and pain that is
part of waking up and moving. Apple Country Chiropractic hears our Williamson
chiropractic patients bemoan this all the time. Those Williamson
knee pain sufferers would appreciate getting some relief. What’s one approach?
The Mediterranean diet that involves, of all things, eating. Apple Country Chiropractic
asks “How hard can eating be for Williamson knee
pain relief?”
Williamson OSTEOARTHRITIS SUFFERERS AND THEIR PAIN
Williamson knee osteoarthritis is widespread.
There are numerous Williamson knee pain sufferers. They’re not alone! 240 million people around the world endure osteoarthritis. That affects about 10%
of men and 18% of women. (1) Any Williamson knee osteoarthritis sufferer
can describe the knee pain, the morning stiffness,
and the creaky joint motion that reduces the enjoyment
of daily life. (1) It is just not much
fun. Now a Mediterranean diet could be
some fun though!
WHAT TO EAT ON A MEDITERRANEAN DIET
The Mediterranean diet incorporates lots
of fruits and vegetable, legumes and nuts, cereals and seeds, seafood and fish.
The Mediterranean diet permits moderate consumption
of dairy, poultry and eggs as well as red wine
and olive oil as the central source of dietary lipids. (1)
Yum! Consuming a Mediterranean diet can be very tasty
and exciting for a new
Mediterranean diet enthusiast.
BENEFITS OF THE MEDITERRANEAN DIET
Knee osteoarthritis involves inflammation as well as pain. A review of 3 research
reports highlights that biomarkers of inflammation and
cartilage degradation due to osteoarthritis decreased
in the Mediterranean diet group. (1) Specifically, the pro-inflammatory
cytokine IL-1α decreased in the Mediterranean diet group. (2) Knee osteoarthritis
patients who stuck to a Mediterranean diet show a
lowered risk of deteriorating knee pain
at four years follow up. For those who did not have
knee osteoarthritis at the start of the 4 years project
and followed a Mediterranean diet, a 9% lowered risk of acquiring
knee osteoarthritis was found. (3) Overall, a higher faithfulness
to a Mediterranean diet is affiliated with better
quality of life and less pain, disability and depressive
symptoms. (4)
